A new library home page search is available to try out. It offers a single search box that returns articles, books, library website results and more in an easily identifiable format.
Can I still use the old search?
Yes! The library home page will look exactly the same through the end of the Spring semester. The new search will replace the current home page search in May 2017.
Why change the search?
In usability testing, many students and faculty expected a single, Google-like search, and they found the tabbed search more difficult to use. The design for the search is based on input from UIC students and best practices from other libraries.
What does the new search include?
The search includes results from many of our most important search tools:
- Summon, the discovery tool that powers the current library home page search
- UIC Library Catalog
- Library Website
- Databases A-Z list
- Subject & Research Guides
- How Do I…? help with using the library
We’re not yet able to pull results for finding aids, digital images and theses or dissertations. In the “More Resources” section of the search results page, you will find links to search for each of these items individually.
Leave your feedback
On the search results page, you’ll see a button to leave feedback. Everyone is welcome to give their input, and we’ll be using the feedback from staff, faculty, and students to improve the search tool before it goes live.
