Request an item that is checked out

When an item owned by UIC has the status “checked out” in the catalog, there are several ways to request it: search I-Share, request it through interlibrary loan or place a hold or recall on UIC’s item.

Item checked out?

  1. Search for other copies through I-Share first.
  2. Make a request through interlibrary loan.
  3. Still not available? Call or visit a circulation desk with the item information and place a hold.

You can directly contact your library’s circulation department and request them to recall the item. The recall process may take up to two weeks for that item to be returned.

Is the item listed as reserve or open reserve?

These items cannot be requested or have a hold placed on them. You can check them out from the reserve desk in the library where they are held.
