Before your visit, search manuscript collections, University Archives, or rare book collections. The Daley Library reading room contains maps, rare books and most of the Library’s manuscript collections. LHS-Chicago has manuscripts and rare books mainly related to the history of medicine.

What to expect
You must first register with the receptionist and follow the reading room attendant’s instructions at all times. The attendant will explain all the rules and procedures required for handling our historical documents.
You may request photocopies, scans, and photographs.
Because our holdings are rare and sometimes fragile, you may not check out the materials from Special Collections and University Archives.
We occasionally lend items to museums, libraries and other cultural heritage institutions. Contact us for more information.
The reading rooms are a space for people to do research. Keep talking to a minimum and please take all cell phone conversations outside.
Getting help with research
Our staff is here to help you. Ask a Librarian for more information.
