Government Information
Overview
Government information resources at UIC cover a wide array of subject areas and formats. The Library subscribes to publications of several international agencies and selectively purchases publications of other states and nations. Some of these Government publications are integrated into the general collections.
Although the Library started its collection of US Government publications in 1956, it has acquired a strong historical collection including an almost complete U.S. Congressional Serial Set. Some state government publications pre-date 1971. In addition, the Library collects laws, regulations, and court cases from Illinois.
The Library collection of international government documents dates back to 1993, though there are United Nations publications dating back to 1984.

- Congress
- Department of Energy (DOE)
- HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development)
- US Bureau of the Census.
State and Local Government Information
The Library has been an Illinois State Depository since 1971. This collection includes publications from the General Assembly, executive agencies and special commissions.
The Library is committed to acquiring local government information for the Chicagoland area. In addition to an extensive collection of Chicago government publications, the Library also maintains a collection of local municipality (six-county area) publications, and publications from cities of similar size across the country.
A microfiche set from the Index to Current Urban Documents (Chicago and Cook County only) is located in the Microforms Department on the second floor of the Daley Library.
Other resources
In addition to its collection of federal, state, local and international governmental information, the Library has developed and participates in a number of significant community service initiatives including the Earth Science Information Center (ESIC) system. The Library also houses supporting collections such as
- Human Radiation experiment papers
- Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC) documents
- materials from the American Planning Association.
