Self-service photography

Researchers are allowed to use camera in the UIC Special Collections and University Archives Department reading room to assist note taking, subject to the following conditions:

  • Photos are for study purposes only and cannot be reproduced, transferred, published, or posted on the internet without express permission from the department
  • All material must be assessed by the desk attendant for physical condition, copyright issues, and donor restrictions
  • The applicant must provide his/her own equipment; no flashes or special lighting permitted, and cameras should be set to silent so as not to disrupt other researchers
  • All materials must be handled carefully in a manner that will not damage them
    • Loose items must be kept in the folder and in the same order at all times
    • Bound volumes must be supported in a book cradle
  • A UIC Library property flag must appear in each photo
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to keep complete and accurate citations
  • The applicant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the UIC Library, its officers, employees and agents from and against all suits, claims, actions, and expenses arising out of the use of digital images produced by the applicant
  • The UIC Library reserves the right to deny requests or revoke permission for any reason
