Daley Library Research Carrels

Apply for a Carrel

Applications are available at the Daley Library Circulation Desk, or users may submit an online application.

Circulation supervisory staff will contact you via e-mail or telephone to set up an appointment for key pickup.

Assignment Policy

  • Assignments are made in the order received.
  • Due to demand, more than one person may be assigned to a carrel.
  • Carrels are assigned until the end of the spring semester of each academic year.
  • The carrel key must be returned and personal belongings removed by the end of the finals week of the spring semester. Courtesy notices are sent as reminders.
  • If you get a notice for your research carrel prematurely, contact Circulation staff at (312) 996-6794.
  • Carrel patrons desiring the use of a carrel for the summer session or for the following semesters may reapply at that time.
  • Failure to return a key will result in charges for a lost key or rekeying of the lock ($25.00), and a non-refundable processing fee ($25.00).
  • Failure to remove personal belongings from carrel at the end of the assigned term will result in charges of $25.00.

Registration of Use

  • A carrel register is located at the library attendant's desks at the east and west door of the Library.
  • Carrel patrons must sign this sheet each day that they use their carrels; once during any day of use is sufficient.
  • Carrel keys will be recalled if the carrel is used fewer than fifteen times during the semester.

Hours

Carrels are accessible only during hours that the third and fourth floors of the library are open.

Patrons inadvertently locked in the building should call campus police at x6-2830 for assistance.

Library Materials

  • Uncharged library materials must not be left in the carrels; such materials will be returned to the stacks.
  • Carrel privileges will be revoked if uncharged library materials are found in the carrel.
