Welcome to the Wall of Engagement
Since the Fall 2016 the Wall of Engagement has been a space where UIC students can share their, thoughts, goals and experiences while being inspired by other students. Responses are based on directed prompts that are posted two to three times a semester.
- Wall of Achievement – posted the first week of the start of the new semester
- Wall of Engagement – posted in Week 8, Week 9 , or Week 10 of the semester (dependent on lobby availability)
- Wall of Engagement – posted in Week 14, Week 15 , or Week 16 of the semester (dependent on lobby availability)
Given the success and growth of the Wall of Engagement this effort has expanded to the Library of Health Sciences – Chicago as of 2025. The student responses not only provide insight into the student experience but allow the University Library to better address the holistic needs of students.
For more information about the Wall of Engagement, check out Jennifer M. Jackson’s 2025 UIC SparkTalk or the 2025 article entitled An examination of students’ needs from 2019 to 2023: Using talk-back boards for library programming.

Community Guidelines
Further guidelines
- Our primary commitment is to encourage and learn from one another. We want to create a space that helps students feel seen and encouraged, while also allowing staff to better understand what students need to feel welcome on campus.
- We will strive to stay on topic. If your note is not at all relevant to the question, it will be removed. We want everyone to have a chance to benefit from this specific conversation.
- We will listen to you. We want you to express yourself the way that you feel comfortable, given it isn’t harmful towards yourself or anyone else. Cursing is allowed, as long as it’s not a slur or directed towards a person/group/event.
- We encourage you to bring your whole self to the conversation. All languages are welcome. Notes will be translated to make sure they are relevant to the wall.
- We will respect privacy. Social media handles and other promotions will be taken down. We can’t verify that these come from the person who is being promoted, so we can’t guarantee they have consented to it.
- We will be mindful of all students. Reference to death and/or suicide in notes will be taken down. We want to be mindful of the possibility of this triggering other students.
- We will work to change for the better. These guidelines might evolve as we discover a new needs that we can address. We care about what you have to say and just want to make the Wall of Encouragement work for you as much as possible.
