Join us and meet Dr. Gholnecsar (Gholdy) Muhammad at this live book signing! This event is a follow-up to Dr. Muhammad's online discussion of her best-selling book, Cultivating Genius: An Equity Model for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy, on Jan. 25 from 2-3 p.m. as part of the UIC Black Faculty Book Share Series. A limited number of free copies of Dr. Muhammad's book will be given to participants on a first-come, first served basis. UIC community members only. Health protocols remain in effect.

About Dr. Muhammad

Dr. Gholnecsar (Gholdy) Muhammad is an Associate Professor of Literacy, Language, and Culture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has previously served as a middle school teacher, literacy specialist, school district administrator, and a school board president. Dr. Muhammad’s scholarship has appeared in leading educational journals and books. She has received numerous national awards, including the National Council of Teachers of English, Promising New Researcher Award, the 2016 NCTE Janet Emig Award, the 2018 UIC College of Education Researcher of the Year, and the 2020 American Educational Research Association (AERA), Division K Early Career Awardee. This year (2021) she was named NCTE Outstanding Elementary Educator in the English Language Arts. She also works with teachers and young people across the United States and South Africa in best practices in equity, anti-racism, and culturally & historically responsive instruction. She is the author of the best-selling book, Cultivating Genius: An Equity Model for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy.
