Science collection moves to Daley, LHS-Chicago

The Science Library (3500 Science Engineering South building) closes as of June 30, 2011. Printed monographs and most print-only journals will be moved to the 3rd floor of the Daley Library; some journals will go to the Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago to fill in title runs.

From July 1 until the beginning of fall semester (while volumes are being physically relocated), patrons searching the online catalog can request Science books and journals for pick-up at Daley Circulation. Daley Circulation can be reached by phone (312 996-2724) or by e-mail (

Science reserve readings are processed by and available at the Daley Library Reserve Desk.

By the beginning of fall semester, all print monographs and key journals will be on shelves in a new Science section in the Daley Library.

Although there are thousands of print volumes in the Science collection, most newly-purchased books and most currently-received journals are available online through the catalog or the Library's Web site. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Library are working together to expand online access to older journal literature, purchasing online backfiles from the Royal Society of Chemistry, the American Geophysical Union, the Institute of Physics, Elsevier, Springer, and Wiley/Blackwell.

Tim Klassen, Science Librarian, will continue to select materials in the science subject areas, provide reference expertise to faculty and students, and conduct library instruction classes. Contact him by phone (312 413-3060) or e-mail (, field_56ba6f8fdb00c
