Q: Can you introduce yourself and your role at the UIC Library?
A: Hi, I’m Yasheswini, and I work in the IDEA Commons at the Daley Library as a Reference Assistant. I support students through our online platform on the UIC Library website.
Q: What has been your favorite part about working at the library?
A: Honestly, my favorite part will always be helping students with their assignments and research projects—especially when they’re stressing over tight deadlines. So many come in at the last minute saying, “We have a deadline today! We need credible resources!” Helping them find what they need has truly been the best part of my journey.
Q: Can you share a memorable moment or project that stands out to you?
A: I have so many good memories helping students and faculty, but one stands out. A student messaged me right at the end of my shift, around 11 PM. I figured it was my last year, so I stayed to see what she needed. She was super anxious because she had only an hour left to submit her first research project. I told her to take a breath—it can be overwhelming, especially with the literary review section. I sent her database links, helped her find peer-reviewed articles, and walked her through the process for about 20–30 minutes. A week later, she emailed me to say she got an A and thanked me, saying she couldn't have done it without my help. That moment was really rewarding for me, and something I’ll never forget.
Q: Any final thoughts?
A: Thank you! I’ve really loved being part of the library community, it’s been such an impactful experience!
