• Make an online appointment with a librarian

  Schedule a one-on-one online research consultation with a librarian for assistance with your research, to learn advanced skills or to identify sources in a specific subject area.

• Access library resources from off-campus

  Current UIC affiliates (students, faculty and staff) can access University Library resources from remote computers, either by using a Proxy URL or a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Either solution will allow authentication for articles in PubMed, Google Scholar and JSTOR, as well as for other Library-subscribed databases and journals.

  Alumni and unaffiliated users cannot remotely access library electronic resources. Please visit the University Library in person for access.

  The UIC Library has resources to help you with writing, style and citations. You can also visit the UIC Writing Center for help with writing, or contact a librarian for help using citation management tools to produce bibliographies.

• Use other non-UIC libraries

  UIC students, faculty and staff can visit several academic and research libraries in Illinois and the Chicago area. You are able to enter some libraries by showing your UIC i-card or registering with the library. You can also request books for pick up at UIC through the I-Share Catalog. Materials from institutions that are not part of I-Share can usually be borrowed through interlibrary loan.

• Request items

  Staff, students, faculty and emeritus faculty can request items from other libraries. I-Share will quickly deliver physical items from Illinois academic libraries. Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) will allow you to request scanned articles and items not available in I-Share.

• Search for UIC theses and dissertations

  UIC electronic theses and dissertations are accessible to UIC students, faculty and staff though INDIGO. Some dissertations and all theses published prior to 2011 are available only in print. Visitors will need to come into the library to access both electronic and print versions.

• Request library instruction (course instructors)

  Library instruction sessions prepare students to find, evaluate and utilize information found through library research tools. Librarians work with UIC faculty to create sessions relevant to course assignments such as research papers. We are available to meet with your students in a variety of ways tailored to student needs.

• Get reproductions from Special Collections and University Archives

  Reading room staff will make photocopies for you, and fees will apply. You may take photographs of items in most collections using a digital camera, with some restrictions. In some cases, photocopies, scans or photographs are not permitted.
