Burt Natarus Papers to UIC
Burt Natarus, Chicago alderman for 36 years, has announced that he is donating his papers and political collections to the University of Illinois at Chicago Library. The collection includes city council proceedings since 1970, financial controller reports, zoning ordinances, scrapbooks of photographs and news articles, and architectural books.
"This donation is a treasure," said University Librarian Mary Case. "Alderman Natarus served residents of the Loop, River North, and Streeterville neighborhoods during a time of rapid change and great improvement. Researchers will have access to decades of firsthand historical information about economic development, changes in residential and commercial districts, and funding for the arts in the city."
The archive will be housed in the Special Collections Department of the Richard J. Daley Library. Once processed, the collection will be available to students, researchers and the general public.
The UIC Library specializes in collecting the archives of Chicagoans who have shaped the city's political, economic, social, and cultural history. The Library holds the collections of former Mayor Michael Bilandic, the Chicago Urban League, and the Bob Crawford Audio Archive, among others.
