Cowboys Full: McManus on poker, March 16 in Daley Library

James McManus, UIC alumnus, writer, poker player, and professor of literature and writing at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, talks about his books and his card playing in the Daley Library Reserve Reading Room on Tuesday, March 16, 5:30pm.

McManus joined the poker-playing elite by earning a spot at the World Series of Poker final table in 2000. Three years later, his chronicle of his underdog run, Positively Fifth Street: Murderers, Cheetahs and Binions World Series of Poker, catapulted the Chicago suburbanite to the New York Times bestseller list.

More recently, McManus traced the evolution of poker from nineteenth century backrooms to twenty-first century television. The result is Cowboys Full: The Story of Poker, a 417-page account of poker's influence on American Life.

Both titles will be on sale at the event, and McManus will sign books after his presentation.

This event is free and open to the public., field_56ba6f8fdb00c
