The presentation is for the general public and will provide an interactive tour of the Library website’s major features, oriented especially toward new users. An open Q+A session follows the presentation. Visitors may join or leave at any time.
While the core functionality of the website remains the same as before, users will benefit from a refreshed design and new features:
- Revamped home page search interface, for easier access to UIC Library collections and CARLI collections across Illinois
- Responsive and accessible user experience, designed to support both new and experienced users
- New Help Center, featuring answers to frequently asked questions about using the Library
The tour also features a look at some of our redesigned and expanded digital exhibits highlighting the Library’s Special Collections and University Archives. This includes the newly launched “Millennium City: Richard M. Daley & Global Chicago” website, which complements the Richard M. Daley Oral History project. The site gives researchers and students a visually appealing way to explore the collection’s extensive interviews with the former mayor’s close colleagues, friends and others who worked with him and knew him from 1989 to 2011. Highlights include interviews providing a glimpse into Richard M. Daley’s approach to governance concerning the critical issues during his time in office such as school privatization and choice, community policing, service-sector job policies and public housing reform. The website is an invaluable tool for both seasoned researchers with an interest in understanding Chicago’s history as well as undergraduate students who are just beginning their higher education journeys and actively learning for the first time to engage with archival resources.
Please invite anyone who may be interested. A recording will be made available on library.uic.edu for those unable to attend.
